How can a change in weather make you sick

by Ashish Gupta, November 1, 2016

I have had this health issue for quite long where every year when the season changes from rainy to winter I catch a cold, this year was no different than any other except for the fact that this year I decided to actually find out why does this happen to me upon start of every winter.

So having brewed my hot coffee I sat down in front of my laptop and started one of my afternoon research surfs wherein I came to gather the following information connecting cold with the weather change.

Weather change brings about a sudden change in weather conditions and barometric pressure which can greatly affect your physical condition wherein some people feel dizzy or start to have a headache or feel ringing in the ears, listlessness, upset stomach, nausea, and so on.

Most Common Health Problems that Occur Due to Weather Changes are
-Fatigue
-Stress
-Skin Irritation
-Loss of appetite
-Cough

Why Does a Sudden Change in Weather Affect Your Health?

Sudden change in temperature, such as going from cold environment to a very hot environment or vice versa, will weaken your resistance, simply because your body tries to re-balance itself more quickly than usual.

In other words, a changing weather can stress out your immune system, making you more vulnerable to infections and viruses. This is why I often see people easily get ill during a seasonal change.

Two best ways by which you can Prevent Weather-Related Illnesses

It is important that you boost your immune system

Simply put, a healthy and well-balanced person is seldom sensitive to a sudden weather change. If you are a healthy and strong person, you can actually endure the stress caused by weather changes and not show any signs of discomfort or sickness.

Take vitamin C

Vitamin C is definitely an immune system booster. It is also effective in the prevention of colds and flu, or to quickly recover from an illness.

Because vitamin C is water soluble, it enters the bloodstream directly and your kidneys can excrete the excess vitamin when needed. Vitamin C and other water-soluble vitamins are not stored in the body so you need to replenish it continuously.

Whenever a seasonal change or sudden change in weather occurs, remember to take vitamin C tablet without delay. By doing so, you may escape from contracting simple weather-related illnesses.

Interesting fact and very true. Had been a sufferer to this climate change health issue in my childhood days and this is what exactly my doctor explained and recommended vitamin c tablets, which proved to be very helpful. But I don't think many are aware of this fact. Thank-you ScienceUtsav for spreading awareness for the same.
